Details on Thursday’s “live” podcast

Everything you need to know

We’re both very excited about tomorrow’s “live” podcast of episode #142. We tested the interface today and it worked great, so we’re ready to rock and roll. Here’s some information on how to get online with us and participate.

First, you’ll need to go to the Skypecast web page —https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/home—and log in there in addition to opening your Skype application. The Skype login is at the upper-left of your screen, where it says, “Hello there!” Sign in using the same account name and password y ou use to log in to Skype. Once you’re logged in, go to “Starting Soon” (or, if you join us after 4 p.m. GMT, “On now”) and click the link to the For Immediate Release podcast. You can also search for us using “FIR” or “For Immediate Release” as your search terms.

FIR Skypecast

Once you find the FIR Skypecast, click “Join this Skypecast.” Skype will dial in and you’ll be greeted with a screen that looks something like the graphic above (taken from our test). You will start out “muted.” In order to participate live on the show, just click the link that says, “Ask for microphone.” I’ll unmute you and let you know that you’re able to talk!

That’s only one way to participate, though. You can also go to the FIR chat room at http://www.forimmediaterelease.biz/index.php/chat. Here, you can engage in conversation with other listeners as the show is being recorded. You can also raise topics you want to discuss or points you’d like us to make. When you join the chat room, please be sure to change your name from Gabber ### to something that lets us know who you are!

In addition to any topics you raise for us, we’re planning on addressing these themes in tomorrow’s show:

  • New research from Forrester suggests 49% of marketers don’t plan to incorporate any new media anytime soon!
  • How people deal with blog-based attacks to their reputations. We’ll look at a couple situations, including attacks to Tim O’Reilly based on his company’s effort to retain the rights to the Web 2.0 trademark for its conference and an accusation that Michael Arrington of TechCrunch takes money to review products and services (he doesn’t).

We also have our usual reports from Dan York and David Phillips, and we’d like you to join us in commenting on those, too.

We’re looking forward (like crazy) to your participation! See you tomorrow at 4 p.m. GMT. (Here’s a site that will help you figure out what time it is where you live when it’s 4 p.m. GMT.)

Details for Interactive Episode

Please drop by and participate!

Here are details for the interactive, FIR episode, number 142, on Thursday, June 1. The show begins at 9 a.m. PDT, 4 p.m. GMT, 6 p.m. Amsterdam time. To participate, start out at our Skypecast page:

https://skypecasts.skype.com/skypecasts/skypecast/detailed.html?id_talk=6843

You’ll be able to participate LIVE in the conversation Neville Hobson and I generally do by ourselves. I’ll announce the process, but in short, you’ll have a keyboard command you’ll use to virtually raise your hand. I’ll announce whom we’re hearing from next and release you so you can talk. We’ll record the entire session and post it as our regular podcast. At the same time you’re listening and (we hope) participating, you can also engage in a live, real-time chat right on our podcat website:

http://www.forimmediaterelease.biz/index.php/chat

You’ll need Skype to participate, but it’s completely free and drop-dead-easy to use. If you don’t already have it, just download it and install it at http://www.skype.com.

IABC Conference Dinearound Details

Details on the FIR Vancouver dinearound.

For those of you who RSVP’d to join us for dinner at the IABC conference, here’s the lowdown:

We’ll dine at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 4, at Cafe de Paris, 751 Denman Street. This is the evening of the opening reception, which is being held at the Vancouver Aquarium. The reception begins at 6:30 p.m., so you’ll have plenty of time to network before leaving for the restaurant, where we have a reservation for 12 people. That means we have a few open spots, so if you haven’t let us know you’ll be joining us, you can still snag a spot and enjoy a moderately priced French meal with Neville and me and several other FIR listeners. Some of the folks we know will be there: Laura Smart, Donna Papacosta, Tom Keefe, Dave Traynor and Ed O’Meara. If I missed you, let me know!

The restaurant has a website: www.cafedeparisbistro.com. We’ll see you there!

FIR goes live on June 1

Our 142nd episode will be live and interactive

Listeners to For Immediate Release: The Hobson and Holtz Report will be able to participate actively in the show as we record episode #142 on Thursday, June 1.

Since we record the show over Skype anyway, it was not a huge leap to record a Skypecast, a conference call-like service that allows dozens of people to participate. We’ll cover the normal content we usually review in a show, but you’ll be able to join in the discussion with us in real time. In addition, you’ll be able to chat with each other by visiting the chat room we set up just for this live, interactive show. The chat room will be at www.forimmediaterelease.biz/index.php/weblog/chat/. We’ll monitor the chat room during the show, taking questions posted there and commenting on the discussion, as well.

The entire show will be posted as a regular FIR episode.

The show kicks off at 4 p.m. GMT, 9 a.m. PDT (where Shel lives) and 6 p.m. Amsterdam time (Central European Time) for Neville. To join the conversation, visit the Skypecasts page, find the Skypecast labeled “For Immediate Release,” and click “Sign in to join.” If course, you’ll need Skype, but it’s free from www.skype.com and requires only a microphone and headphones (or a headset that combines the two).

image Add this event to your calendar!

We’re both looking forward to your participation in this unique Hobson & Holtz installment!

Interview - Christopher Carfi, CEO, Cerado: May 10, 2006

In this edition of For Immediate Release podcast interviews, Shel enjoyed a 28-minute conversation with Christopher Carfi, CEO of Cerado and author of the Social Customer Manifesto blog, about the link between communications and customer relations, new approaches to customer relationship management, and Cerado’s business social networking too, Haystack.

For automatic synchronization with your iPod or other digital player, you’ll also need a podcatcher such as the free Juice, DopplerRadio, iTunes or Yahoo! About our Conversation Partner:

imageChris says, “I’ve had the opportunity to work on a bunch of cool things over the years. These have included: heading up a killer team that developed information management and data visualization systems for the Indy Car circuit; developing advanced underwriting systems to help financial institutions better manage their financial risk; being one of the original members of the board of directors for RosettaNet, the premier standards body for process integration across the electronics industry. Currently, I’m a co-founder of Cerado, Inc. We work with companies to help them to understand what their customers are thinking (by doing crazy things like going out and having conversations with those customers). We also help our clients understand what their competitors are doing, so they can thwart them at every turn.”

There’s more to Chris’s profile, but rather than list it all here, go take a look at what someone would see if they found Chris using Cerado’s Haystack business social networking utility.
