Testing again: fast, but not that fast

Another shot at a listenable variable-speed version of FIR

In FIR #158 today, we mentioned that Eric Tobler has provided us with another variable-speed version of FIR, this one at 25% instead of 40%. At this speed, the show doesn’t sound quite so rushed as the earlier attempt, but it does reduce the overall length of the show from 72 minutes to about 53 minutes.

Please give a listen and let us know what you think of this speed. Download the MP3 and leave a comment to this post. Or you can listen right now from this page:

Thanks. And thanks again to Eric for his dedication to this effort!

Nominated for 2006 Podcast Awards

Nominated for 2006 Podcast AwardsWe’re thrilled to announce that “For Immediate Release” is included in the final voting slate of nominated podcasts for the 2006 Podcast Awards contest.

The nomination period ended last week and the contest organizers have now posted all the nominated podcasts ready for public voting which begins in a couple of days.

FIR is one of the five contenders in the Business category. As with last year’s contest, we’re up against some stiff competition.

To everyone who nominated us - thank you.

Voting opens at 00:01 on Friday July 28 and closes at 23:59 on Friday August 11. Times are Hawaii Standard Time (GMT -10). Please carefully note the contest rules especially re the voting process.

All the contest award winners will be announced during the Podcast and Portable Media Expo in Ontario, California, on September 29. Whether FIR wins or not, Shel and Neville will be at that event as both are speaking there.

We’d be awfully pleased if you would vote for FIR in the Business category. Thanks!

Testing FIR at high speed

Testing FIR at high speed

In FIR #155 yesterday, we spoke of our experiment re show length and our target of aiming for a 60-minute show. We also included an audio comment from Eric Tobler who had a proposal for creating a version of the MP3 file that reduces the show length (time) by a considerable amount.

Eric has generously responded with a version of yesterday’s show that has reduced the length from 69 minutes to just under 43 minutes.

If you’d like to listen and let us know your opinion about this potential solution to show length, download the MP3 and let us know what you think by a leaving a comment to this post. Or you can listen right now from this page:

Thanks. And especially, thanks to Eric.
