Linked Conversations #6 - 1/13/14: A conversation with Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen

FIR Presents LinkedConversations with Chuck HesterWelcome to the latest episode of LinkedConversations with Chuck Hester.

This is a very special episode devoted exclusively to my interview with Phil Collen, lead guitarist for Def Leppard. This is not your typical episode, and there will be no LinkedIn tips or news. Tune in next week for that information!

I had the chance to talk to Phil for more than 45 minutes about his career with Def Leppard, his other band Manraze, and his new blues duet, Delta Deep. It is, in my opinion an amazing interview that gives insight into being a rock star, how social media has changed record promotion and what happens when a man follows his passion and does what he truly loves.

Def Leppard lead guitarist Phil CollenSome background: Phil joined Def Leppard in 1982 during the Pyromania album recording sessions playing guitar solos on the hits ‘Photograph’, ‘Foolin’’, and ‘Rock Of Ages’ among others. With the release of Hysteria Def Leppard had their best selling album to date releasing seven singles from the album including the smash hits ‘Pour Some Sugar On Me’ and ‘Love Bites’.  Visit Def Leppard’s Facebook page.

Phil’s alternative band, Manraze, is a collaboration between Phil, bassist Simon Laffy formerly of the late 70’s band Girl and legendary Sex Pistols’ drummer Paul Cook. More information on Manraze is on the band’s Facebook page.

Phil’s latest project is Delta Blue, a powerhouse extreme blues duet/team consisting of Phil and an amazing vocalist, Debbi Blackwell-Cook.
Delta Deep can be reached on its Facebook page.

Phil Collen is a practicing vegan, has been a vegetarian for 31 years, and alcohol-free for 26 years busting the myth of the classic ‘rockstar’ stereotype wide open.

Enjoy this insider look at rock star Phil Collen, this week on LinkedConversations!

So thanks for listening and if you like what you hear, spread the word!

TV@Work #3 - 01/13/14 - A Killer App

TV@WorkWelcome to episode #3 of TV@Work. If you like the show, please share it with your friends by sending them to this link to the show blog.

This edition features an interview with Erik Cullins, Director of Customer Success at ProofHQ. Anyone who works in corporate communications experiences the nightmare of trying to get meaningful feedback from internal stakeholders on written information that has to get out to employees or other audiences. It can be even more irksome and daunting to manage reviews and approvals for video content. I started using ProofHQ a couple of years ago when I took on a demanding project that involved producing one internal video per week, and it pretty much saved my skin.

ProofHQ is something that anyone who produces video in the workplace should know about, but my conversation with Erik goes beyond that, touching on how technology is changing the way we work, and what might be in store for the future.

Next up – in Episode 4 I talk with enterprise video pioneer Paolo Tosolini about the power of digital media, who generously shares what he’s learned about how to implement video in the workplace.

How do you like the show?

I’d love to hear your feedback. Ask me a question, let me know who you’d like me to interview, suggest topics for future shows. Share your comments through the usual FIR comment channels (further down in this post), or drop me a line at ron@ronshewchuk.com.

Until next time…..keep rolling!
