FIR Interview: Darin Diehl, AVP, SunLife Canada Web
SunLife Canada, the financial services company, has joined the growing ranks of companies producing non-marketing content. The effort, BrighterLife.ca, provides text and video—with infographics coming—to help people looking for information on how to handle a variety of financial situations. And the material is not designed to pitch SunLife services or products.
In this FIR interview, co-host Shel Holtz speaks with SunLife Assistant Vice President Darin Diehl, who is responsible for BrighterLife, about the origins and goals of the site, its performance to date and plans for its future.

Shel Holtz delivered a presentation at the Ragan Communications conference titled, “Communicating Your Company Story—Inside and Out,” held October 3-5, 2011 at Southwest Airlines headquarters in Dallas, Texas. The presentation was part of the Employee Communications track, one of three tracks available to conference attendees. You can follow along with the PowerPoint visuals in the SlideShare presentation below.
The recording was made on a Marantz PMD-620 digital recorder and a wired lavalier microphone. The audio file has been processed to improve clarity, but there is still some buzz in the background unavoidable in order to amplify questions from the audience. The file is edited lightly for length.

FIR Interview: Jillian Beard, Morton’s Steakhouse
The social media world erupted with speculation when Peter Shankman blogged that Morton’s Steakhouse had read his tweet (written in jest) and delivered to him, via tuxedo’d staffer, a porterhouse steak at baggage claim after he’d landed. It was a PR stunt, many claimed, and nothing more. Others argued that the only reason Shankman got special treatment was because of his 100,000-plus Twitter followers. We’ve gone straight to the source to find out what was really behind the gesture and to learn more about how Morton’s approaches social media.
FIR co-host Shel Holtz spoke with Jillian Beard, Chicago-based regional marketing manager for Morton’s and the face behind the company’s Twitter account for the inside scoop. The conversation includes discussion of the Twitter account, Facebook page, blog, YouTube channel and more.

Join the FIR GaggleAmp experiment
After recording the FIR Interview with Glenn Gaudet, the president and founder of GaggleAmp offered to comp FIR to an account. We took him up on his generous offer, and we’ll report on the outcomes of our GaggleAmp experiment each week on FIR to provide listeners with insights into how this unique, innovative service works.
As any GaggleAmp customer would, we have set up a “gaggle,” which is a collection of people who have offered to help amplify our tweets and Facebook updates announcing new FIR content. GaggleAmp provides a variety of metrics for us to see how we’re doing, including the kind of reach we’ve achieved and the value of that reach in terms of pay-per-click (PPC) and ad buys.
Our goal is to attract new listeners to FIR, so we’ll track progress toward that goal.
In the meantime, you’ll earn points for each message you forward along and you’ll be able to see how you compare to others in the gaggle via a leaaderboard. At some point, we’ll dish out some FIR goodies to those with the highest scores.
If you’d like to participate, visit this page to join the gaggle.
