FIR Live panel discussion Dec 19 on Forrester’s corporate blogging report
Corporate blogs rank at the bottom of the trust scale with only 16% of online US consumers who read them saying that they trust them.
That’s according to Time To Rethink Your Corporate Blogging Ideas, a new report from Forrester Research principal analyst and Groundswell co-author Josh Bernoff.
So if people don’t trust company blogs, what should you do about it?
If you have an opinion, please join us for a FIR Live on BlogTalk Radio panel discussion on Friday December 19 at 11 am PST, 2 pm EST, and 7 pm GMT. The panel includes (in addition to hosts Shel Holtz and Neville Hobson):
- Rick Murray, President, Edelman Digital
- Max Kalehoff, Vice President Marketing, Clickable Inc
- Josh Bernoff, Vice President and Senior Analyst, Forrester Research
- Lionel Menchaca, Chief Blogger, Direct2Dell
- Stephen Baker, BusinessWeek writer and author
- John Cass, marketer and author
We expect to add more panel members as we approach the date of the show (and if you’d like to be on the panel, let us know).
As with all FIR Live on BlogTalk Radio shows, you’ll have the opportunity to call in and add your own opinion and perspectives or ask questions of the panelists. Just call (US number +1) 347 324 3723 at any time during the show. You can also listen to the show by dialing in to that same number, or by visiting the site and clicking the “listen” button.
We hope you’ll join us! But if you can’t make it, a recording of the show will be archived on BlogTalk Radio and issued as a regular Hobson & Holtz Report episode.

Free entry to all sessions (ticket value $550).
What is the Contest?
- It’s simple – create a video that conveys a thought, a concept, an idea in an imaginative way.
- The video can be as long or as short as you wish, and you can use any tool you like to create it – seesmic, Qik, Kyte, Vimeo, 12seconds.tv, Utterli, YouTube, etc.
- Then, publish your video online and email the link to us at fircomments [at] gmail [dot] com. Do not send us your video, just a link to where it is online.

See the short list of rules, below.
Here’s the announcement video on seesmic today:

- By entering this contest, you give us the right to make use of your video in any way we decide in connection with the FIR podcast series. We are more than happy to exercise any right under a Creative Commons license.

- The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into about any entry.
Good luck!

Live call-in show postponed to September 20
Due to Shel’s inability to keep his calendar up to date, a scheduling conflict is pushing back the live call-in show to Saturday, September 20. Sorry about that. Times are the same—10 a.m. Pacific, 1 p.m. Eastern, 6 p.m. London. Topic is the same, too: We’ll discuss the question raised on the blog eGov.au: “I’ve often wondered about the strength of the relationship between an organisation’s commitment to internal communications and its commitment to an effective intranet. I have worked in organisations with strong internal comms cultures, but with very poor intranets.” The post came to our attention courtesy of Michael Vanderdonk.
Details here.

Addressing the PR spam question on FIR Live
Last October, Chris Anderson of Wired magazine outed over 300 email addresses as spammers. In May, Lifehacker.com’s Gina Trapani started a PR Spammers wiki.
These two acts are symptomatic of growing frustration and anger by many people who perceive the PR profession of behaving like spammers in how PR practitioners pitch online.
Is the PR industry guilty of nothing less than being purveyors of spam? Is it about a lack of knowledge and skills in blogger and media relations? What role and responsibility do the database companies and the professional associations have in educating PR people?
Or is it simply all about a lack of common sense and taking care?
What seems pretty clear is that too few in the PR profession seem to be paying any attention.
On Wednesday June 11, 2008, For Immediate Release will host a call-in community discussion on FIR Live on BlogTalk Radio, in which you can take part if you have a point of view.
Members of the media database industry, PR professionals and media people will be part of an expert panel to lead debate and discussion of this thorny issue. Influential bloggers include Stowe Boyd, Susan Getgood and David Phillips.
The original idea for this debate comes from John Cass and Jason Falls; see their blog posts for detailed background information.
The live show will take place over the course of an hour on June 11 beginning at 10am PDT/ 1pm EDT / 6pm UK time. You can listen by visiting FIR Live on BlogTalk Radio or by calling +1 347 324 3723, which is also the number to call if you want to participate.
A recording of the show will be published as an FIR podcast (subscribe).

Join the FIR room in FriendFeed
One thing we like doing and talking about on FIR is experimenting with different and new ways of communicating.
And if you have a point of view you want to share with the FIR community, you have multiple ways of doing that. Email, comment lines, direct audio commenting on the website, Facebook group, discussion forum… it’s a long list of places you can use.
We’ve just added a new one - a room in FriendFeed.
FriendFeed is a relatively new web service, started in October 2007, as an aggregation tool that lets you keep track of your friends across over 30 different social networks. But it’s rapidly evolving into a dynamic conversational and engagement channel as people think of interesting ways to use it.
Rooms is one such development, announced last week. So we now have an FIR room as another place you can use to connect with the FIR community.
Seen something you think would be a good topic for an FIR news item? Or you have a point of view you want to express on an item already shared in the FIR room? Share it all in the room.
Will this replace the existing ways in which you can communicate with the FIR community? As we’re fond of saying, it depends. How you want to use it, how we want to use it - time will tell.
Anyone can join the FIR room. And anyone can subscribe to the FIR room RSS feed.
We have a handful of members so far. Take a look and see what you think. While you’re there, why not let everyone know what you think? Or via any of our other channels.
You have the choice.
