  1. Gents,

Since you do cover the worlds of wikis and podcasting, I thought I’d just pass along a link I recently stumbled upon. Wikipod aims to be a wiki about all things iPod - http://www.wikipod.org/

Interestingly, they have an entry already on how to overcome the 8-bit audio limitations that were mentioned by Shel in an earlier show: http://www.wikipod.org/index.php/Recording_audio_for_free

Granted, the solution is to install Linux on your iPod, but it does sound like it can be a solution.

Anyway, the site looks like something to watch (and to which to contribute).

    Regards,
    Dan

  2. Hey, Dan. Yeah, I was aware of the Linux option for iPods, which is essentially a hack. It also requires some impressive amount of storage to install the iPod version of Linux. But it’s supposed to be very cool, the various things Linux lets you do on an iPod, including better bit-rates for voice recording. Guess I’ll have to get a 40-GB model to try it out. ;-)

  3. Shel,
Don’t wink too quickly… the current (4th generation) iPods are not supported by the iPod Linux distro yet… the developers haven’t reverse-engineered it all yet.  I was thinking i might give it a try myself until I read the warning on http://www.ipodlinux.com/ So, for the meantime, I’ll have to stick to 8-bit audio - or use another device to do the recording.

    Regards,
    Dan
