As long as Josh Wolf came up in the discussion, we figured we’d offer the following information:

First, a reminder that a fund-raising show for Josh is planned this Saturday, August 19, from 7 to 9:30 p.m., at Cafe la Bohème, 3318 24th St., San Francisco. Admission will be free and donations will be much appreciated. Entertainers will include, among others, Diamond Dave Whitaker of Enemy Combatant Radio and musician John Staedler (http:// johnstaedler.com). Chuck Gonzalez will be DJ. Speakers will include, among others, Josh’s mother, Elizabeth Wolf-Spada; his uncle Harland Harrison, who is Libertarian candidate for Congress from San Mateo County; and Krissy Keefer, Green Party candidate for Congress from San Francisco’s east side; and yours truly, representing the National Writers Union.

If you can’t attend and want to help Josh defray his legal costs and keep his apartment, you can donate in either of two ways:

  • Through a PayPal account accessible via http://joshwolf.net/grandjury/donate.html
  • ending a check to his mother, made out to her, at PO Box 2235, Wrightwood, Ca 92397.

Josh reports through his website that he’s in good health and spirits, and resolute on keeping his unedited video footage out of the grand jury’s hands. He’ll welcome your letters. Send them to Federal Correctional Institution, Joshua Wolf 98005-111, 5701 8th St. Camp-Parks, Unit J2, Dublin, CA 94568.

  1. Hello Everyone:

This is Laura Sturaitis, VP of New Media Development at Business Wire. Just wanted to weigh in on the topics of the New Media Release and some other things that came up in NMRCast #5.

Although we were not able to participate in the first meeting of the Social Media Release group, I speak for Business Wire when I say we are all over this concept and have been working aspects of this for some time.

We definitely want to be a part of the hrelease working group and recently met with Todd Defren and corresponded with Shannon Whitley regarding their template. As Todd indicated to our EVP, Michael Lissauer, these efforts will work best with the cooperation of the PR industry leaders working together with the key wire services Business Wire and PR Newswire.

Our partnership with the Newsforce team, Greg Jarboe and Jamie O’Donnell and their partners, is part of an ongoing effort on many fronts, here at Business Wire, to improve the functionality and online visibility of the press release.

Business Wire is committed to technological innovation and we see the New Media Release, XBRL, SEO, expanded RSS and multimedia functionality as integral parts of building cost-effective distributions for our members to both the media and online communities.

Business Wire has been sending our feed in NewsML for some time and we have many exciting developments ready to go which we will be announcing soon.

Speaking of cost-effective…where did you guys get the idea that Business Wire charges for links? Never have! We have incorporated links in releases for years and we don’t charge for that. We HOST multimedia content on our Smart News Releases which allows us to provide our members with expanded measurement and there is a charge for that, but not for links. We have some new enhancements coming in this regard shortly…so stay tuned.

I am a fan of your podcasts and would welcome the opportunity to be part of the working group on the hRelease. We have done a great deal on this already behind the scenes and we want to join with you to create the standard or micro formats in order to deliver the New Media Release to the widest and most receptive audience possible on behalf of our members.

Sorry for such a long post, but I had much to say from the sidelines. Thanks for the show!

    Laura Sturaitis
