Speakers & Speeches: November 3, 2005 - CiB & IABC UK Panel Discussion
This panel discussion in London, organized by the British Association of Communicators in Business and the IABC UK Chapter, was titled “Join the Virtual Revolution.” The organizers described the event:
“Digital media is changing the way we communicate. Just as we’ve got our heads around the internet, email and mobile technology, a new wave of tools are becoming increasingly relevant – blogs, wikis, podcasts, RSS and integrated mobile devices. What are these tools and how can we use them to communicate with audiences? More importantly, how can audiences communicate with us? And if everyone is a communicator, how can we control the message? The on-demand, digital world offers communicators new and exciting opportunities and challenges.”
The panel was moderated by Ben Hunt, Editor of the Financial Times’ Digital Business. In order of their presentations, the panelists were Neville Hobson, communicator and FIR co-host; Neil McIntosh, Assistant Editor of Guardian Unlimited; and Euan Semple, BBC Director of KM Solutions.

Trouble getting FIR?
Update 4-Nov: The problem was resolved by Libsyn yesterday evening. Turns out the problem was to do with Libsyn’s domain name listing in Whois. To cut a long story short, Libsys say they’re changing their domain registrar. So, you should be able to retrieve the shows as per normal including via iTunes and Yahoo! Podcasts. I just manually downloaded #82 from the normal link, and that was fine. If you do continue having a problem, use the link Shel included in this post, above. - Neville.
The service that hosts and serves up our audio files, LibSyn, is sort of out of commission right now, per their message on their home page:
We are having a DNS issue that may be out of our hands. We have contacted our registrar who responded that we may be affected by issues with some of their “core servers” that announce the IP address for our domain. We are working to resolve this issue and will keep you guys updated.
You can get to LibSyn at their dot-org address (www.libsyn.org), but that won’t help you get our podcast. Check back every now and then to see if LibSyn has resolved the problem. As soon as Neville or I find that the issue has been resolved, we’ll add a follow-up to this post so you’ll know that FIR is once again available and ready for download from LibSyn.
