FIR Speakers and Speeches: Brian Solis at Dell B2B Social Media Huddle

Brian Solis

The third Dell B2B Social Media Huddle took place in London on March 17, 2011. Organized jointly by Dell, Google and FIR, the event featured social business expert Brian Solis and was characterized by its popular unconference approach, enabling anyone to present on a topic or lead a breakout discussion.

In front of a packed room at Google’s London headquarters, Solis explained the concepts of social business and the social customer and their significance in the business-to-business area. During an open Q&A discussion facilitated by FIR co-host Neville Hobson, Solis offered insights into the concept of Behaviorgraphics with ‘benevolence’ at its centre and why he believes "if ignorance is bliss, awareness is enlightening."

You can view Solis’ presentation, titled "Engage" (embedded below, or at Slideshare if you don’t see the embed), and follow as you listen to the podcast.

To conclude a lively and compelling one-hour discussion, Solis offered his impressions from SXSW Interactive - the five-day conference and networking event on emerging technology that takes place in in Austin, Texas, each March - highlighting what’s hot, what’s on the radar, and what it will mean for B2B in particular.

Speakers & Speeches: Shel Israel on social media trends at Social Media Breakfast SF East Bay

Shel Israel

Shel Israel spoke at the Social Media Breakfast San Francisco East Bay on Friday, February 11, 2010. His talk focused on the dominant long-term trends emerging in the social media space. Shel co-authored (with Robert Scoble) “Naked Conversations” and more recently wrote “Twitterville.” He is a consultant who tweeets at @shelisrael and blogs at Global Neighborhoods.

The talk was followed by Q&A which is not included in this recording. The talk was recorded using a Marantz PMD-620 portable digital recorder set on a table near the speaker and using the built-in microphone, which didn’t pick up the questions (which turned into a dialog on privacy).

Speakers & Speeches: Andy Smith on “The Dragonfly Effect”

Content summary: Andy Smith, former VP of Marketing at Dolby Labs, discusses the principles outlined in the book he has co-authored with Jennifer Aaker, “The Dragonfly Effect: Quick, Effective and Powerful Ways to use Social Media to Drive Social Change.” Smith spoke at the Social Media Breakfast SF East Bay in Walnut Creek, California on Thursday, July 29, 2010.

About “The Dragonfly Effect” (from the website)

imageNamed for the only insect that is able to move in any direction when its four wings are working in concert, The Dragonfly Effect reveals how everyday people achieve unprecedented results through harnessing the incredible power of social media.

While there are many books teaching the mechanics of Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube to compete in business, The Dragonfly Effect is the first to show how to tap social media and psychological insights to achieve a single, concrete goal – whether that is finding an almost impossible bone marrow match for a friend, raising millions for cancer research, or electing the current president of the United States.
Featuring dynamic, original case studies of global organizations like the Gap, Starbucks, Kiva, Nike, eBay, Facebook, as well as start-ups like Groupon and COOKPAD, The Dragonfly Effect demonstrates how to achieve both social good and customer loyalty by leveraging the power of design thinking with practical strategies.

The Dragonfly Effect proves that you don’t need money or power to inspire seismic change.

A special thanks to Sallie Goetsch for supplying the recording.
