Shel, Neville, thanks so much for discussing/debating my post on PR & authenticity, I am honored that you felt it was worth talking about on the Hobson & Holtz Report.
Shel, you are right, PR never made claims of authenticity…although some of us practitioners probably do cling to that ideal.
Also, I think if a byline is 95% written by an employee and needs some “cleaning up,” I don’t see that as being inauthentic. If it’s that person’s thought leadership, intellect, words and tone. I was referring to articles written, etc. by PR folks with minimal input from the “author” whose name they slapped on the piece (or release comment).
