PR Newswire recently released he results of a study conducted by Diagnostics Plus that determined the wire service’s press releases are used by journalists as a source for an article more than its competitors. The release of the results through social media channels ignited considerable discussion, which is addressed in this interview with PR Newswire President Dave Armon and Diagnostics Plus President Jim Fong.

imageDave Armon is the president of PR Newswire.  A former reporter for United Press International and account manager for the Saatchi & Saatchi-owned PR agency Rumrill-Hoyt, Dave joined PR Newswire in 1989 as Cleveland bureau manager and has held a variety of senior management roles in the organization.  He was instrumental in PR Newswire’s acquisition of Chicago’s PR News Service, ProfNet, eWatch, U.S. Newswire and Hispanic PR Wire.  A native of Rochester, N.Y., Dave earned a degree in journalism from Utica College of Syracuse University.  He blogs daily on PR Newswire’s intranet and Tweets at http://www.twitter.com/daveyarmon.

imageJim Fong is President of Diagnostics Plus, a market research and consulting company located in State College, Pennsylvania.  Diagnostics Plus has been in operation since 1987 and employs twenty research professionals.  Jim is a research veteran, having conducted market research and planning studies for a wide variety of clients over the past two decades.  Prior to joining Diagnostics Plus in 2005, he served as Director of Marketing Research and Planning at Penn State University.  In addition to his role at Diagnostics Plus, Jim also teaches graduate and undergraduate courses online at Penn State and Duquesne University.

Prior to joining Diagnostics Plus and Penn State, Jim served as president of a New England-based market research firm, director of research for a marketing and advertising firm, and director of analysis for a top twenty international research firm.  He earned a B.S. in mathematics, M.S. in statistics, and an M.B.A. from the University of Vermont.  He resides in State College, Pennsylvania with his wife, three children and two dogs.
