FIR Interview: John Clemons, Interim Executive Director, IABC

IABC

Leading a professional association that represents about 15,000 business communication professionals in over 80 countries is a challenging opportunity for a visionary leader.

It’s a challenge that John Clemons, ABC, APR, has grasped with alacrity following his appointment as Interim Executive Director of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) in early January as the association leadership pursues its search for a new permanent leader.

In this FIR Interview, Clemons discusses his new role with co-hosts Neville Hobson, ABC and Shel Holtz, ABC - both long-time IABC members - starting with his reasons for accepting it on an interim basis. In a wide-ranging discussion, Clemons outlined his vision as interim leader, explaining what he intends to accomplish. He paid tribute to the leadership tenure of IABC President Julie Freeman, ABC, APR, who retired at the end of 2011 after a decade in the role.

And he spoke of present issues and challenges confronting the profession and IABC at a time of continuing change and evolution in society and in business that he intends to address, including the effects and potential of social media, the importance of diversity, the international aspects of IABC, and more.

FIR Video Interview with Eric Schwartzman on Collaborative Consumption

Eric Schwartzman joined FIR co-hosts Neville Hobson and Shel Holtz in a Google+ Hangout to recount his less-than-satisfactory experience with AirBnB while attending Le Web in Paris this past December. The experience prompted thinking about collaborative consumption services in general. These are services that connect buyers and sellers without providing an intermediary, such as an agency, to resolve disputes and address issues that arise as a result of the transaction.

FIR Interview: Chad Warren on Adobe SocialAnalytics

imageWhen Adobe announced Adobe SocialAnalytics earlier this year, and offered it under open beta in May, the news attracted close attention from enterprises keen to learn more about aggregating activity from social networks and online communities that gives them actionable insights into how that activity impacts key business metrics and brand perceptions.

In this FIR Interview, co-host Neville Hobson met with Chad Warren, Senior Manager, Product Marketing for Social Media at Adobe’s headquarters in the US, to discuss Adobe SocialAnalytics at the UK launch event in London on November 10.

During a wide-ranging conversation, Chad explained how Adobe SocialAnalytics works and what it does for the customer; what type of organization will use it and for what purpose; and some clear perspectives on the evolving marketplace for social media analysis products and services especially in relation to consolidation (eg, Salesforce’s acquisition of Radian6 earlier this year), fragmentation, and major entrants to the market such as Adobe.
