AMP UP Your Social Media #28: B2C Social Relationships with Scott Monty
Scott Monty is the former Global Head of Social Media at Ford Motor Company. Ford is one of the leading automakers of the USA based in Detroit, Michigan that built its way to operating in several countries. Scott recently joined AMP Up Your Social Media’s host Glenn Gaudet to discuss B2C social relationships.
“The great thing about social is that it’s not about the technology… it’s about a mindset.”
Scott offers tips for social media marketers on how to gain customers’ trust:
- Create human bonds. People have a hard time trusting companies, but they do trust people. Don’t focus only on transactional relationships, but also human bonds. When people feel like they are being listened to and appreciated, they will have stronger connection with the company. This will help with future prospects who may turn to those people for references.
- Put the company in control of social media relationships. Your company has a more meaningful understanding of your product than any social media agency will. You will understand how to turn the collected data into insights that can be processed by different parts of the organization. Agencies aren’t as reliable because they have a higher turnover rate and won’t be able to spread the data throughout the company in order to be successful..
- Pay attention to customers’ wants and needs. Pick a person to be the face of the company who will interact with individuals. Pay attention to where your customers spend their time, what they are doing, and what their expectations are when it comes to a brand. This will give you the opportunity to form a relationship that allows your customers to appreciate your company on a more personal level.
Scott would love to hear from you! Chat with him on Twitter or find him at http://www.scottmonty.com/
About Scott Monty
Scott Monty graduated from Boston University’s School of Medicine with a Master’s in Medical Science, but it wasn’t until the early 2000s when he had kids that he began to blog. That started his career in social media, which led to his important positions in companies like Crayon and Ford. With six years of experience in Ford, Scott has been named as one of the top 10 influencers in social media by Forbes.

AMP UP Your Social Media #27: Turning Social Media Relationships Into Business with Tony Zayas
Tony Zayas is the Marketing Manager for Proforma, a leading supplier of print and promotional products and graphic communication solutions in North America with over 750 locations and franchises nationwide. Tony recently joined AMP UP Your Social Media’s host Glenn Gaudet to discuss how social media can help small business owners and entrepreneurs develop relationships that turn into business.
“Utilize social to grow web presence and to sell; not to sell directly on social, but to develop those relationships that lead to business”
Tony reveals his strategies on how to develop relationships on social media and how those relationships can lead to business:
- Keep your content relevant to the end user. Think about your audience, and put together content that talks to them - not necessarily just about what you sell and your services. You should consider your content as a service; a very important service.
- Utilize the resources of social media to find and interact with potential business leads. You need to find people to connect with, interact with them, and then, once you have a relationship, casually begin the business conversation.
- LinkedIn has a lot of potential and is often underutilized. Make sure that after you connect, you follow up. Not a sales pitch, but a thank you or personalized message. Keep it friendly, encourage them to look at your profile, offer to introduce them to your connections; this interaction is what leads to a business relationship.
Tony would love to hear from you! To connect with him find him on LinkedIn or email him at tony@socialbusinessblueprint.com.

Content Marketing with Brittany Berger
Brittany Berger is the Digital Content Supervisor in the PR and Marketing department for eZanga.com., a search engine specializing in online advertising and services. They offer local, regional, and national advertising campaigns focused on generating a high ROI. Brittany recently joined AMP Up Your Social Media’s host Glenn Gaudet to discuss tips for content marketing.
“Take different approaches to sharing content. You’ll get more success if you take a unique approach such as a quote from the content with a link rather than just the content’s title and a link.
Brittany offers tips to help you decide on content topics, structures and styles:
- Choose Topics. When you are deciding on topics for your content consider who your audience is, what your brand stands for, what platform you are posting on, your own expertise (or the expertise of the person you are interviewing), and what your competitors are talking about.
- Vary the posts. It is important to vary the style of your posts: Infographics, bullet style posts, articles, etc. Brittany explained that she determines what day she does each style based on how busy her schedule is. She explained that she can write a bullet style post in much less time than she can write a paragraph style post, yet still contain the same basic information. On her busy days she writes quick posts, and on days she has less on her plate she writes more detailed articles.
- Get sales involved in creating content and about your industry niche. Getting sales to produce content is likely near impossible, but you can still use them as an information hub! Interview your sales team to get the content: What questions are they hearing from customers? What are hot topics among consumers? What new products/services are you offering?
Brittany would love to hear from you! Chat with her on Twitter at @BBerg1010 or find her on LinkedIn.
About Brittany Berger
Brittany is a 2012 graduate of the University of Delaware with a B.A. in Mass Communication and minors in Interactive Media and English. Through my classes, I’ve learned how digital and social media have changed our world and methods of communication. Brittany is the Digital Content Supervisor for eZanga.com. She believes that social media can be the answer to most questions in life (especially “How do you spend your free time?”).
She has seen and experienced first hand how Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Google+, and more can help both individuals and brands with any problems they may have. She’s dedicated her career to making sure social media can help as many people and businesses as possible. She’s also discovered a love for email marketing and the inbound marketing methodology.

AMP UP Your Social Media #25: Using Social Media for Events with Ramsey Ksar
Ramsey Ksar is the CEO & Chief Product Officer for Blyve, a real-time web and mobile audience engagement platform for today’s leading brands and media companies that brings people closer to the things they love. He recently joined AMP UP Your Social Media’s host Glenn Gaudet to discuss how social media can be a powerful tool for events.
Don’t only think about engagement, think about lead generation!
Ramsey shares a couple of ways that you can use social media to help elevate engagement during an event:
- During live events, offer your audience the opportunity to join in on debates. Both your social media audience and your live audience can join in to ask questions to debate candidates and your coordinator can filter them for good ones.
- Reserve dedicated times for live interactions with event participants, athletes, etc. For example, after a speaker comes off stage, set them down at a computer for 30 minutes for a live Q&A session with your social media audience.
Ramsey would love to hear from you! Chat with him on Twitter.
About Ramsey Ksar
Ramsey Ksar is an entrepreneur at heart with a passion for consumer focused experiences built around intuitive user interfaces. He is currently the CEO & Chief Product Officer for Blyve, a real-time web and mobile audience engagement platform for today’s leading brands and media companies that brings people closer to the things they love.
Prior to Blyve, he held key product management positions at Yahoo! including Director of Social Platforms (just prior to leaving for Blyve) as well as Group PM for Yahoo!‘s critically important broadband relationships with AT&T, BT, and Verizon. At the Walt Disney Internet Group, he held the position of Sr. Director of Product Management for Search and Directory, a cornerstone position responsible for managing a large team that delivered Infoseek’s search engine and the Go Guides open directory, as well as the launch of the Disney backed GO.com.
He started his career at Silicon Graphics (SGI) in 1995 in global business development where he was quickly thrown into a leadership position presenting to and managing many of SGI’s Fortune 500 customers. The success he realized in this position translated into his first product management role where he created hardware/software bundles targeted at the nascent Internet service provider and web content creator markets.
He holds a degree in Mathematics and Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he graduated in 1995. Last but not least, with a little research, you will quickly find out that he is also an avid photographer who loves travel and lifestyle photography.

AMP UP Your Social Media #24: Comparing Social Media Platform Benefits with Stephanie Frasco
Stephanie Frasco is the owner and social media consultant for ConvertWithContent.com, which focuses on social media and blogging consulting and management. Stephanie recently joined AMP UP Your Social Media’s host Glenn Gaudet to discuss how she helps lead her clients to social media success and different social media platforms and the benefits of each:
Be listening on Twitter for people talking about your brand and your business and engaging with them. It’s very effective and you’ll be surprised how to see many people will respond back and start following you, and maybe even increase your sales.
Stephanie details what social platforms she suggests for which type of business. She looks at each business individually and does a social media audit to see what’s happening currently around their business, industry or brand. She looks at the business’s audience and where they are already and what conversations are being had. Consider doing the same for your business. Here are a few guidelines that Stephanie suggests going by to see if your business is on the right social networks for your social media marketing goals:
To get the most bang for your buck:
- Facebook: If you have no fans, it’s going to take a while to be successful on Facebook, given the new guidelines and decrease in organic reach. There are a ton of people on Facebook everyday, so it is definitely worth being there, but just know it is going to take time.
- Pinterest: Suggested for e-commerce sites. One of the best ways to drive sales from social sales.
- LinkedIn: For B2Bs must be on linked in for a personal and a business standpoint.
- Twitter: For outreach of any kind or for targeted leads. You can search for conversations around your brand or industry and bring those people into your own conversations and drive them to your site. Twitter is also a great tool for customer service.
- Google+: Great for its SEO benefits. Google+ recently launched promoted posts for those with 1000 circles/followers. These promoted posts are linked to your GoogleAd Words account and your Google display network. Build up your circles so that you can take part in this effective promotion tool.
If you are spending all this time building this community, but they aren’t buying anything, you’re wasting your time. Make sure to be using a conversion tool so that you can your ROI. Stephanie uses InfusionSoft for tracking leads, to see who comes to her website and where they came from. She can even see how much each person spends on each network.

Matt Heinz on AMP UP Your Social Media
Matt Heinz is the founder of Heinz Marketing, a Seattle-based marketing agency focused on sales acceleration. Heinz helps clients achieve sustained sales success by growing revenue from existing customers and cost effectively identifying and winning new customers. Matt recently joined AMP Up Your Social Media’s host Glenn Gaudet to discuss the need for an integrated sales and marketing approach via social media to increase sales and velocity.
“If they can build an elevator to the moon, I think we can figure out this reporting stuff eventually, too.”Matt offers these tips to help build a stronger bond between your sales and marketing teams:
- Start with content. Understand who your audience is and what they care about. What are the primary problems, trigger events, or buying signals that you can engage someone with with good content that leads them to be interested and learn more about you?
- Make social media a regular habit for your sales team. Setup a daily reminder for them to network daily. Everyday the marketing team should feed the sales team with content for them to post to their own social channels. Sales people should reply to any comments, and follow all of the people they talked to the day before on Twitter and send them LinkedIn requests.
- Reuse and repurpose content. There are many tools available to automatically repost previous blog posts so you can reuse content with ease.
You can read more from Matt on his blog, Matt on Marketing, or follow him on Twitter.
