AMP Up Your Social Media: How to Involve C-level Employees in Social Media Marketing

AMP UP Your Social MediaBrian Basilico started his first business - a recording studio - at age 18. After working for AT&T, he worked in recording and eventually worked with an agency in interactive marketing. 13 years ago, he opened his own business focusing on the trifecta of websites, analytics, and social media. Brian recently joined AMP UP Your Social Media’s host Glenn Gaudet to discuss social media marketing and how it relates to C-level employees.

“Education is one of the best ways to get C-level people…[to use new social media techniques]. It’s even more powerful if you can show a competitor doing that!”

Brian talks about ways to help CEOs and businesses understand how to develop a social media strategy:

  1. Establish your market. Knowing how to sell your product and how to utilize your marketing platform is all based on who your market consists of. People want to connect with businesses, so developing a presence through content helps to put a face to your business. Even if your marketing team is posting on behalf of the CEO, take the time to connect with and establish your market. Look for opportunities to utilize social media components to improve upon your traditional methods.
  2. Post in industry-specific groups. Even if your content is mostly informational, find content that creates a connection and engages your market. Build a reputation with skilled people in the industry in order to gain traction in the market and to gain a response. If you don’t have an industry-specific group to post to, create your own!
  3. Plan ahead. When you attend conferences and industry-related groups, take the time to plan ahead and meet up with folks who plan to attend. Then, when you attend the event, you can solidify the connection and develop the relationship further.
  4. Maintain the relationship. While many companies may be overzealous off the bat when it comes to their social media marketing, many falter over time and forget to maintain the relationships they’ve created. Partners, vendors, and clientele remain loyal to those who maintain and strengthen the relationship over time, so don’t let these efforts fall by the wayside.

AMP UP Your Social Media #28: B2C Social Relationships with Scott Monty

AMP UP Your Social MediaScott Monty is the former Global Head of Social Media at Ford Motor Company. Ford is one of the leading automakers of the USA based in Detroit, Michigan that built its way to operating in several countries. Scott recently joined AMP Up Your Social Media’s host Glenn Gaudet to discuss B2C social relationships.

“The great thing about social is that it’s not about the technology… it’s about a mindset.”

Scott offers tips for social media marketers on how to gain customers’ trust:

  1. Create human bonds. People have a hard time trusting companies, but they do trust people. Don’t focus only on transactional relationships, but also human bonds. When people feel like they are being listened to and appreciated, they will have stronger connection with the company. This will help with future prospects who may turn to those people for references.
  2. Put the company in control of social media relationships. Your company has a more meaningful understanding of your product than any social media agency will. You will understand how to turn the collected data into insights that can be processed by different parts of the organization. Agencies aren’t as reliable because they have a higher turnover rate and won’t be able to spread the data throughout the company in order to be successful..
  3. Pay attention to customers’ wants and needs. Pick a person to be the face of the company who will interact with individuals. Pay attention to where your customers spend their time, what they are doing, and what their expectations are when it comes to a brand. This will give you the opportunity to form a relationship that allows your customers to appreciate your company on a more personal level.

Scott would love to hear from you! Chat with him on Twitter or find him at http://www.scottmonty.com/

About Scott Monty

Scott MontyScott Monty graduated from Boston University’s School of Medicine with a Master’s in Medical Science, but it wasn’t until the early 2000s when he had kids that he began to blog. That started his career in social media, which led to his important positions in companies like Crayon and Ford. With six years of experience in Ford, Scott has been named as one of the top 10 influencers in social media by Forbes.

AMP UP Your Social Media #27: Turning Social Media Relationships Into Business with Tony Zayas

AMP UP Your Social MediaTony Zayas is the Marketing Manager for Proforma, a leading supplier of print and promotional products and graphic communication solutions in North America with over 750 locations and franchises nationwide. Tony recently joined AMP UP Your Social Media’s host Glenn Gaudet to discuss how social media can help small business owners and entrepreneurs develop relationships that turn into business.

“Utilize social to grow web presence and to sell; not to sell directly on social, but to develop those relationships that lead to business”

Tony reveals his strategies on how to develop relationships on social media and how those relationships can lead to business:

  1. Keep your content relevant to the end user. Think about your audience, and put together content that talks to them - not necessarily just about what you sell and your services. You should consider your content as a service; a very important service.
  2. Utilize the resources of social media to find and interact with potential business leads. You need to find people to connect with, interact with them, and then, once you have a relationship, casually begin the business conversation.
  3. LinkedIn has a lot of potential and is often underutilized. Make sure that after you connect, you follow up. Not a sales pitch, but a thank you or personalized message. Keep it friendly, encourage them to look at your profile, offer to introduce them to your connections; this interaction is what leads to a business relationship.

Tony would love to hear from you! To connect with him find him on LinkedIn or email him at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

About Tony Zayas
