FIR on Higher Education #24: Roland King on Op Ed Writing

Roland King, a consultant for PhairAdvantage Communications, is in the midst of analyzing every opinion editorial (op ed) written by a university president this past year. He’s analyzed over 350 op eds and gleaned some best practices and trends. (The following link details more about the university presidents op ed project). On FIR on Higher Education #24, Roland shares some of these insights. We discuss:

- what goes into a good op ed
- examples of university presidents who are skilled at writing op eds (Franklin and Marshall University President Dan Porterfield for one)
- getting op eds placed.

If you’re an academic or administrator looking to write up op eds, you’ll definitely want to tune in to this episode. Ditto if you are a communicator / PR professional supporting colleagues in the op ed writing process.

In our reports section, I discuss the Financial Times and IE Business School’s new joint venture in the custom education space, and Harry Hawk talks about the future of higher education based on insights he heard from a talk led by Prof. Cathy Davidson.
